Give us girls some credit

The sayings of “you throw like a girl” or “you hit like a girl” could be insulting to some women, but not to me. I take more offense of “you sure you can carry that?” Or anything that insults my strength. Just because I am a girl does not mean I can hold my own weight, or as referred to the picture, someone else’s weight. I can do what most guys can’t, so my strength should never be questionable. I know that in some instances girls don’t have the hands on strength that guys do, but I sure do know how to control and handle my strength better than some guys can too. Cheerleading has taught me how to use my strength and how to handle control two bodies at once. I believe because of cheer, I would know how to defend myself in any instance. My strength should never be underestimated because I bet I can use my strength better than most men.

Making it through

My mother has been in and out of jail/prison my entire life. This weekend was the first time she has seen me cheer in 3 years due to her being in prison. I know some people who blame parents like mine for the bad choices they make in life, but not me. My mom is the very reason that I am a decent and caring human being today. I know the difference between right and wrong, and I make the best choices I can in life. Even though my mom is different than most moms, she loves me just as much, if not more as other moms love their daughters, and she supports me 100%. Without her and the mistakes she has made in life, consequences wouldn’t be a big deal to me. But I do everything to the best of my ability and I choose to love everyone with an always optimistic mindset.

First Hog Game Experience

This weekend was my first time to Eve go to a Razorback game! I’ve lived in Arkansas my whole life and have always loved watching the hogs on TV, but I had never been to an actual game in Fayettville. My boyfriend, Carter is from Springdale so his family surprised me and got me and Carter tickets to the game! Unfortunately I believe I picked a bad year to watch the Razorbacks live, because they are having a terrible season. Last week they lost a team that they paid to win, and now they are losing every game after. Hopefully they will straighten up and have a good rest of the season! Even though they didn’t do the best, I still had an amazing time and an amazing first experience.

My #1 Supporter

My whole life I have lived with my grandmother. She has raised me ever since I was 3. Being here in college, I realize how much I took her for granted. I miss having someone who cooked me dinner, does my laundry, and gives me love when I don’t even want it at the time. She is the reason of my success today and she supports me at every game and event I cheer at. We live 45 min away but she acts as if the drive is nothing to her. Never take your family for granted, because one day you may not have them for good and will wish you would have said “thank you” and “I love you” more often.

Homework

Homework 9/15

Over the weekend I did the technology detox assignment. I have done a social media detox for up to a week before and it was honestly very refreshing to only communicate with the world through texting and calling. This time around it was much harder because I wasn’t able to have any means of communication other than one on one contact. It was very difficult to focus on anything during the day because I was so used to having a routine with my phone always in my hand. I felt useless because everyone around me was connected to the world and I felt like I was just lost because I didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t realize how addicted to my phone I actually was. When I finally turned my phone back on after 24 hours, I felt like it had been much longer and I felt like I had a lot of communication that I needed to catch up on.

Social media advertising

About a month ago, I got a sweet little puppy that has filled my heart with joy. A local business owner from my home town posted on Instagram and Facebook that she found a litter of puppies that needed a good home. My parents just bought a new home so it was a great opportunity to get one! I used to think that people who posted things on the Internet to get rid of their stuff, was lazy because they wouldn’t go out and do anything about it. But then I realized that getting rid of things by posting it on social media was the fastest and most productive way. People online shop more and more every year and now it’s one of the most common ways of shopping. If it wasn’t for social media shopping, I would have never seen the post about my sweet new puppy, Kali.

Go Tech Go!

Cheering on the great teams of Arkansas Tech is a huge enjoyment of mine. This year is going to be a great year for the Wonderboys football team. The past two games have been a complete blow out and have scored more points than last season combined! The team suffered a great loss this summer of one of their team mates. That tragic accident had brought the team much closer and it’s obvious that they work together as a team. Zemaric Holt was number 90 and he played on the defense line. The team plays for him each game and it shows that they are ready to turn ATU football around. I am extremely excited to cheer on the team to a great season!
